August 1, 2014

By James M. Keller, The Santa Fe New Mexican

Aug. 01--This summer, soprano Corinne Winters is not just making her Santa Fe Opera debut as Soong Ching-ling in the company's production of Dr. Sun Yat-sen; she is also celebrating the release of her first recital CD, which the GPR label began circulating on July 29. Titled CanciÓn Amorosa: Songs of Spain, it is a collection of songs in four Spanish dialects by 12 composers, of whom the most recognized are Xavier Montsalvatge and JoaquÍn Nin. (Also famous is Federico GarcÍa Lorca, although his musical compositions have been overshadowed by his literary achievements.) She is assisted by Steven Blier, one of the most engaging collaborative pianists on the planet. On Sunday, Aug. 3, Performance Santa Fe's Festival of Song series sponsors Winters and Blier in a live rendition of their recorded recital, which doubles as a release party. The music starts at 4 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church (1200 Old Pecos Trail). To purchase tickets ($45 general admission, $75 reserved seating), call 505-988-1234 or visit wwwticketssantafe.org or www.performancesantafe.org.
