Barley Council of Canada Supports Bill C-30 Regulations

August 1, 2014

SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - Aug. 1, 2014) - The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) supports the federal government's announcement today regarding a series of important regulations related to the implementation of the Fair Rail for Grain Farmers Act (Bill C-30).

"We would like to thank the federal government for working towards an accountable rail transportation system that works for the grain industry," said BCC Chair Brian Otto.

The amendments announced today are meant to facilitate fair and equitable delivery of grain, reduce overall system costs, and ensure Canada's standing as a reliable trading partner.

"This is an immediate win that will benefit the entire value chain," added Otto. "We are committed to encouraging grain companies and rail companies to work together to better align supply and demand capacity for the benefit of all Canadians."

The BCC maintains that it is in Canada's national economic security interest to ensure that our rail system meets the needs of all commodity stakeholders in all industry sectors.

"As part of the upcoming CTA review, it is our hope that the government continues to work towards long-term solutions for a solid transportation system in Canada," said Otto.

BCC encourages further consultation between shippers and railroads to improving Canada's transportation structure for the future.
