Newsmaker: Dennis W. McCurdy

July 08--Noteworthy: McCurdy, as president of the Harmony Business Association, will accept the 12th Butler County Chamber of Commerce Community Champion Award on behalf of the group. The award says that the 40-member group has "succeeded in your mission of bringing customers to your businesses and spreading the 'good news' about Harmony and the surrounding area. Through your collaborative efforts combined with a strong sense of civic pride, you have encouraged business growth while organizing and conducting events."

Age: 66.

Residence: Slippery Rock Township, Butler County.

Family: Wife, M.J., and children, Logan and Caitlin.

Occupation: Harmony attorney concentrating on family law. Also a music producer with Lonesome No More Productions.

Background: McCurdy is an adoption solicitor for Butler County Children and Youth Services, formerly adult protective services solicitor for the Butler County Agency on Aging, a member of the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Solicitors Association. Formerly a marriage and family therapist.

Education: Bachelor's degree in psychology/sociology from Urbana University, 1970; master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Pittsburgh, 1979; law degree from Pitt, 1991.
