July 7, 2014

Taiwan'sChunghwa Telecom has reportedly said that, having continued to upgrade its broadband services, it aims to add some 600,000 subscribers taking connections at speeds of more than 100Mbps this year. According to Digitimes, the multi-service operator expects 35% of its new sign-ups to be connected via fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology.

Chunghwa is said to have focused on developing its fixed broadband infrastructure to offer faster speeds in order to better prepare for the expected competition from the launch of 4G LTE-based services in the country. Coverage too is understood to have been improved, with 90% of the population now reportedly within its fixed broadband network footprint, up from 85% at the end of last year.
