Tokyo stocks edge lower on selling after recent gains

July 6, 2014

Tokyo stocks fell slightly Monday on selling to lock in recent gains amid a dearth of fresh buying incentives.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 57.69 points, or 0.37 percent, from Friday at 15,379.44. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.37 points, or 0.42 percent, lower at 1,279.87.

Major decliners included oil and coal products, trading companies as well as pulp and paper.
