Oldest student in Kazakhstan graduates with honors

The oldest student in Kazakhstan, 78-year-old student of the Fine Arts and Design Department of the Atyrau State University Ilya Zhakanov has graduated from the university with honors.

He received a bachelor's degree and diploma with honors from university's president Beibut Mamraev.

Famous composer, writer and honored culture worker of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Ilya Zhakanov was accepted to the university two years.

Ilya Zhakanov thanked all his teachers. "I thank you for your patience and warmth that you give to your students," said Zhakanov.

Zhakanov has defended his thesis project in mid-May. Zhakanov presented more than 20 paintings on various themes.

Zhakanov is a composer, writer, musicologist, honored worker of culture of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

He is a graduate of the Philology Faculty of the Kazakh State University named after Kirov.

He once worked as a literary editor at the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR and was the chief editor at some Kazakh radio.
