July 05--JOHNSTOWN -- Two national touring bands will appear in Johnstown within two weeks of each other as part of a local arts center's Folk Series.
Kalob Griffin Band with Justin Giuffre and the Pilgrimage will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, and Cold Chocolate with The Crew of the Half Moon will perform at 7 p.m.July 24 at Venue of Merging Arts, 305 Chestnut St. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.
The Pilgrimage, whose members are folk musicians Bill McClelland, Adam Milkovich and Giuffre, will be the opening act.
It will be a return appearance for the Kalob Griffin Band of Philadelphia, who played in a previous concert at Artworks and at the 2013 Flood City Music Festival in Johnstown.
Band members are Griffin on vocals and guitar; Rob Dwyer on guitar, mandolin and banjo; Eric Lawry on drums and vocals; John Hildenbrand on keyboards and vocals; and Jonathan Colvosn on electric bass.
The band merges the musical influences of country, Americana and improv rock 'n' roll.
Their spirited fans sing along and chant "K-G-B."
It will be the first appearance in Johnstown for Cold Chocolate of Boston, an Americana band creating a new sound by fusing bluegrass and roots with a dash of funk.
Opening for them will be The Crew of the Half Moon, a Johnstown acoustic trio who play original music and covers on guitar, harmonica, piano, bass guitar, mandolin, lap steel guitar and drums.
A four-piece band with original tunes, Cold Chocolate is rocking audiences with guitar, banjo, upright bass, drums and four-part harmony.
Guitarist and songwriter Ethan Robbins began his bluegrass career at Oberlin College, where he was a founding member of The Outhouse Troubadours, a bluegrass group.
Cold Chocolate is scheduled to perform this year at several music festivals including the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in Oak Hill, New York, and FloydFest in Floyd, Virginia.
