INDIA'S POTENTIAL IN SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING ON SHOW IN US

The Government of India intends to showcase the potential of the country in semiconductor manufacturing at the SemiCon West event in San Francisco on 8-10 Jul 2014. The Department of Information Technology intends to promote the new industry at the event. The Government has approved two consortia for setting up fabrication units for semiconductors. The consortium of Jaiprakash Associates with

IBM and Tower Jazz of Israel is expected to invest Rs26,300 crore to

set up a facility at Greater Noida. The consortium of Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation with Silterra and ST Microelectronics is expected to invest Rs25,250 crore to set up a facility near Gandhinagar. The Government intends to acquire a stake of 11 percent in both projects.
