According to Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi is now the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The Chinese company, which sold 26 million devices in the first six months of 2014, owning 5.1 percent of the worldwide smartphone market, creeping closer to Lenovoís 5.4 percent.

Since its beginnings in the Chinese market, the vendor has ventured into the South East Asian market, including Malaysia.† The fact that their products, most notably the Xiaomi Mi 3, were sold out within mere minutes is a testament of the the brandís popularity in the region. Xiaomiís growth represents a quarter which has been dominated by Chinese vendors, chipping away at Samsungís market share. Strategy Analytics reported that the second quarter saw total smartphone shipments of 295.2 million, an increase of 27 percent from the same time last year. While North America and European markets have stagnated in terms of growth, emerging markets like Africa and Asia have posted a healthy rise in the number of sales.
