Infringement Planner: Day 8

July 31, 2014

By Colin Dabkowski, The Buffalo News, N.Y.

July 31--"Wiseguy Sidewalk Comedy Cornucopia," 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. outside Picasso Moon

"What do a sidewalk, a DJing businessman, a mime, a guy who kind of plays the guitar, people who don't show up for their shows, being double-booked, things that happen out of nowhere, this crazy festival, and a 10-person improv sketch-comedy troupe have in common?" Find out during this outdoor comedy event, featuring performances from GREYSCAPE, El the Mime, Random Contact and WNY Improv.

"Barging into the Burch," 5:30 to 10 p.m. in the front yard of the Burchfield Penney Art Center

This is the second Infringement mini-fest in the Burchfield Penney's outdoor space, featuring 16 performances ranging from the bizarre "Control the Red Boy" at 6:15 p.m. to tribal and folk music from Lobo Marino at 8 p.m. Check out the full schedule here.

Poetry open mic at College Street Gallery, 7 p.m.

Always unpredictable but rarely boring, this weekly poetry event swells a little bigger during the Infringement fest. It's also a good chance to say goodbye to one of Allentown's favorite art venues, which is losing its space as a nearby restaurant expands.

"Wham Bam Thank You Slam Part IV," 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in The Gypsy Parlor

A staple of the festival each year, this wild party featuring spoken word performances, music, drag and burlesque is guaranteed to be a good time. It kicks off at 7 with spoken word from an act called slammed from the page to the people, followed by event organizer MC Vendetta, WNY band Lady Lush and the Vinyls, a drag reinterpretation of "The Wizard of Oz" called "Somewhere Over the Gaydar," the DJ duo PINJA and the "groundbreaking, gender-bending comedy duo" Drunk Bearded Ladies Gone Wild.

"Electric Thursdays 2: The Reckoning," 10 p.m. at Electric Avenue

It's a bit off the beaten Infringement path, but Electric Avenue has been hosting plenty of worthy shows during the festival. Case in point is tonight's electronic music event, featuring Soma, JeffRepeater and MatKa.
