Dollar remains in upper 102 yen range in early Tokyo deals

July 31, 2014

The U.S. dollar traded in the upper 102 yen range early Friday, almost unchanged from its levels overnight in overseas trading.

At 9 a.m., the dollar fetched 102.77-78 yen compared with 102.75-85 yen in New York and 102.86-87 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The euro was quoted at $1.3389-3389 and 137.60-61 yen against $1.3385-3395 and 137.60-70 yen in New York and $1.3395-3397 and 137.78-82 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon.

In New York on Thursday, the dollar drew buying against the yen as upbeat U.S. employment-related data bolstered expectations of an early U.S. interest rate hike.

The dollar's gains were later tempered by a sharp fall in U.S. stocks which intensified market players' risk aversion, dealers said.
