Aug. 01--Middleton-based Spectrum Brands Holdings reported earnings of $78 million, or $1.47 per diluted share, on sales of $1.13 billion for the third quarter of 2014, up from profits of $36.1 million, or 69 cents per diluted share, on sales of $1.1 billion for the same period last year.
The global batteries and appliances division, also based in Middleton, reported sales of $494.8 million for the quarter that ended June 29, up from $491.6 million a year ago. Gains in retailer distribution contributed to the increase in North American sales, the company said.
Sales were up for all divisions except pet supplies, and Spectrum Brands said it has paid down $125 million of its term debt so far this year.
