July 30, 2014

Sony Corp. said Thursday its group net profit in the April-June quarter rose more than eight-fold to 26.81 billion yen thanks to strong sales of its gaming console and the yen's depreciation.

The electronics titan's consolidated operating profit surged 96.7 percent to 69.81 billion yen on sales of 1.81 trillion yen, up 5.8 percent on year.

For the full business year ending next March, Sony left unchanged its group net loss projection of 50 billion yen against a loss of 128.40 billion in the preceding year.

The company is expecting a consolidated operating profit of 140 billion yen, up 428.4 percent from the previous year, on sales of 7.8 trillion yen, up 0.4 percent.
