ABUJA -- The Federal Government has inaugurated three ministerial committees to ensure a successful take-off of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company, NMRC.

The three committees are the Ministerial Committee on Presidential Initiative on the Delivery of 10,000 Housing Units under the NMRC Housing Finance Scheme; Ministerial Committee on Verification and Auditing of FG Lands and Landed Property in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, and Ministerial Committee on National Housing Survey.

Inaugurating the committees in Abuja, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi, said the committees were put in place to bring to reality promises of home accessibility and ownership through news products and services made by President Goodluck Jonathan at the beginning of the year.

The President had, on January 16, 2014, launched NMRC to enhance home accessibility and ownership through the new products and services offered by the company to increase mortgage penetration in the country.

Eyakenyi further pointed out that the inauguration would ensure proper utilisation of the Federal Government's lands and landed property, with a view to getting maximum value from prime property and freeing under-utilised land for new housing projects.

She stressed that the effort would go a long way to reduce the current 17 million housing deficit in the country.

"It is worthy to note that the inauguration ceremony, which we are here to witness today, is also another giant step towards actualising the vision of Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for a repositioned and vibrant housing and urban development sector that will contribute more positively to the development of our great country," she said.
