Galt plans full day of Fourth of July events

July 03--The fourth-annual Fourth of July celebration on Friday in Galt includes something for every age.

"Every year it gets bigger and better," Mayor Marylou Powers said earlier this week.

Here is the schedule of events:

Exhibit Hall

7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Chabolla Center, 600 Chabolla Ave.

Galt citizens will showcase their talents in a competitive format through displayed handmade quilts, fine arts and cooking including preserves and baked goods. To be judged, entries must be received in the Parks and Recreation Department, 610 Chabolla Ave., by 3 p.m. today.

Second-Annual Officer Tonn Memorial 5k Run/Fun Run or Walk

8 a.m., Veterans Field, 900, Caroline Ave.

Opening ceremony for this family friendly event begins at 7:30 a.m.

Independence Day Parade

9:30 a.m.

The route begins at A and Fourth streets before commencing down C Street.

Horseshoe and softball tournaments

10:30 a.m., Sports Complex, 1022, Caroline Ave.

Kid Zone, live music featuring Tony Maynard and TME

5 to 9 p.m., Veterans Field

The cost for Kid Zone is $5, includes amusement park-style rides and games.

Fireworks in the Pool

7 to 10 p.m., Gora Aquatic Center, 630 Chabolla Ave.

Enjoy the city pool while watching fireworks in the sky. Tickets are on sale now: $10 for four entrants, $3 each additional person. Limited to the first 300. For more information, call 209-366-7180.


9:30 p.m., Galt Market Grounds, 900, Caroline Ave.

Whether you're coming out just for the morning parade or waiting for fireworks when the sun goes down, Councilman Mark Crews encouraged residents to stay hydrated throughout the day as they're enjoying the festivities, since it is expected to be close to or in triple-digits Friday.
