July 03--BOURNE -- Jessica Carlin, a mom of three from Bellingham, had her world turned upside down on Wednesday when she stood beachside for a private performance by Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

And it all came from the simple act of making a phone call.

After calling into MIX 104.1, a Boston radio station, and winning a contest, Carlin was put in the running to win a private performance with the musician. She found out on her son's birthday that she'd won the prize package, which included a week's stay at a two-story beach house in Bourne, the location that Sheeran performed at.

"I couldn't even dream of renting a place like this," Carlin said.

Carlin and her family have been following Sheeran since the beginning of his career, and once they found out that their prize would include a private performance by the singer, plus time to meet with him, they were in awe.

Carlin said she was overjoyed when she found out she would be meeting Sheeran, but she was more excited for her daughter, Marissa.

"My daughter is the hugest fan, and her dream is to be a professional singer, and if she gets to sing with Ed today, that is a dream come true for her," Carlin said before the concert.

Marissa, 14, has idolized Sheeran for years and, as a singer herself, was aching for a chance to sing with the redheaded star. She even had a song in mind: Sheeran and pop star Taylor Swift's duet "Everything Has Changed" off of Swift's 2012 album "Red."

As it seems, fate was on Marissa's side.

After beginning his three-song performance before a group of Carlin's family and friends, Sheeran introduced his second song by saying,

"One of the contest winners, Marissa, asked if she could sing with me, and I said, 'Why not?'"

Marissa then joined Sheeran in singing "Everything Has Changed," making her dream of performing with the musician come true.
