Columbia State Community College'sPryor Art Gallery, in partnership with Arts in Action, announces a call for submissions to the second annual "From the HeArt," a Tri-Star Bank-sponsored exhibit. "From the HeART" is a community-wide, juried art competition and is open to all artists in Middle Tennessee.

"I'm looking forward to seeing artwork from the many wonderful and talented artists in Middle Tennessee," said Rusty Summerville, Pryor Gallery curator. "This is the second time we are holding the 'From the HeART' competition, and we're pleased that it has become an annual event."

To be accepted into the exhibit, artists must submit a photograph of their work to Summerville no later than the extended deadline of July 7. All visual arts mediums will be considered, including oil, watercolor, acrylic, drawing, mixed media, pottery and sculpted pieces. Two dimensional art works must be framed, and all pieces must be original. Artists will be notified by July 11 if their work has been accepted.

The exhibit's featured artist will be Charles Cox, whose paintings are in collections at Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, and several bank headquarters, as well as in private and corporate collections around the country.

Cox has appeared in the December 2008 issue of American Art Collector, was featured in the January 2011 issue of Nashville Arts Magazine and in the April 2013 American Art Collector. In 2012, he was made a signature member of Oil Painters of America in recognition of his achievements in the field of painting.

"Last year's 'From the HeART' show was a splendid gathering of local artists," said Beverly Mitchell, assistant professor of English and board member of Arts in Action, an advocacy group for art and artists in South Central Tennessee. "Showcasing the talents of our region both celebrates and encourages all with creative aspirations."

The public is invited to view the exhibit from July 30-Aug. 29. A reception for the artists and the community will be held in the Pryor Gallery from 5-7 p.m.Aug. 22 . A $500 prize will be awarded during the artists' reception.
