A restroom building will go up in Adam's Park, commonly known as Grotto Park, in Fergus Falls.

The Finance, Personnel and Development Committee Wednesday recommended initiating the restroom facility project, approving construction plans and authorizing staff to obtain quotes.

City staff determined the restroom facility needs to be a frost-protected structure, with a structurally durable exterior, a cost-effective design, sufficient electrical power supply for park events and be ADA compliant. The most cost-effective approach will be to have a concrete block structure constructed by local contractors and suppliers.

The building, with one men's restroom and one women's restroom, would be located just north of the playground area at the park.

Last year, the city approved sanitary sewer and water main installation work as part of phase I for the project.

The other part of the project at Adam's Park is extending the pavement of Burlington Avenue South to Arlington Street South, which would complete the entire paved surface within the park. The estimated cost of the park improvements would be $190,000.

In May, the City Council approved the pavement extension as part of the miscellaneous street improvement mill and overlay projects for 2014 throughout the city.

The city hopes to have the Adam's Park projects completed this fall.
