By Jerry Siebenmark, The Wichita Eagle

July 03--Officials from Thunderbird Tactical Thursday broke ground on a planned shooting complex at the 4-year-old business in northeast Wichita.

About 100 people attended a ceremony held at the complex's site, which is on the west side of Greenwich near 28th Street North.

The ceremony included color guards from the Marine Corps and McConnell Air Force Base.

Thunderbird Tactical owner Ryan Pennockcq said the new complex will include a 24-lane, climate-controlled shooting range; two classrooms with an attached private tactical range; and a 5,000-square-foot retail shop. In addition to sales of firearms and accessories, the company offers various levels of training with handguns, rifles and shotguns, as well as concealed carry classes.

The new facility is expected to open in the first quarter of 2015.

General contractor on the project is Cambiando LLC and architect is Innovative Construction Services. Simmons First National Bank is providing the financing.

Thunderbird Tactical is currently located at 406 N. Seneca.
