BRIEF: SummerWind Youth Ballet concludes with performance in Norman

July 03--NORMAN -- Young dancers from across Oklahoma and such states as Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Texas concluded an intensive, two-week program at the University of Oklahoma with a free, public performance.

The SummerWind Youth Ballet is composed of 35 dancers between ages 11 and 17, selected by audition for participation in the annual dance academy staffed by the OU School of Dance.

The comprehensive ballet program is aimed at educating young dancers in techniques of ballet, including pointe and variations, as well as modern dance, jazz, character and highland dance, yoga and pilates. Students also attended lectures on dance history, injury prevention, nutrition and stage makeup.
