BRIEF: Fireworks shows light up South Plains

July 03--This weekend, you can be patriotic almost anywhere in the South Plains.

Fewer counties in the area have banned fireworks than they did in recent, drier July Fourths.

Colorful displays and accompanying activities include:

Plainview -- Parade with car show at 11 a.m. Friday on Broadway Street, Color Fun Freedom Run 5K Saturday at Broadway Park

Lamesa -- Friday activities include a 10 a.m. parade, team-roping, Do or Dye 5K run, classic car contest, Miss Firecracker pageant, live entertainment, food and craft vendors. Fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Snyder -- Friday activities include a parade at 10 a.m., flag-raising ceremonies at 9 a.m., vendor booths and live entertainment all day, volleyball and washer-pitching tournaments and a fireworks display at dark. Events are in Towle Park.

LUbbock -- Friday activities include the parade, 4th on Broadway, a street dance and fireworks at Mackenzie Park at dark.
