July 28, 2014

The chairperson of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, Monday, in Luanda, welcomed the efforts of the Angolan Government regarding the reduction of poverty levels in the country.

The head of the AfDB made this reference to the press at the presidential palace after an audience granted by the Angolan head of State, JosÉ Eduardo dos Santos, who primarily addressed issues related to cooperation between Angola and this African banking institution as well as the development of continent.

He said he took note of poverty reduction in Angola, from the levels of 60 percent to 38 percent, a fact he considered as a "plausible effort" and that the AfDB "would continue to support increasing efforts of the Government."

He said that concerning the issue of poverty reduction, there are "key elements" for that purpose, having enumerated as a fundamental factor job creation.

"We intend to build a strategic relationship with Angola, given its role and importance to the African continent level," said Donald Kaberuka, expressing his intention to continue working with the Angolan authorities.
