Tokyo stocks rise in morning on hopes for strong corporate results

Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday morning as buying gained traction on the back of investor hopes for strong corporate results in the middle of earnings report season.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 60.11 points, or 0.39 percent, from Monday to 15,589.51. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.76 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1,287.83.

Major gainers included mining, pharmaceutical and machinery shares.
