Tokyo stocks open slightly higher on Dow's rise

Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher Tuesday as buying was underpinned by an overnight rise in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 43.47 points, or 0.28 percent, from Monday to 15,572.87. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.24 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,288.31.

Major gainers included marine transport, utility and electric machinery shares.
