Tokyo stocks advance on positive business results

Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by positive business results shown in the continuing earnings reports season.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 88.67 points, or 0.57 percent, from Monday at 15,618.07. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.34 points, or 0.34 percent, higher at 1,290.41.

Major gainers included mining, real estate and pharmaceutical shares.
