Shelter Afrique Hands Uganda Housing U.S.$9 Million

Pan-African urban housing financier, Shelter Afrique, has given a $9 million loan to Uganda National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC).

The facility will help boost the supply of affordable housing in Uganda.

Acting Shelter managing director, Yekini Olayanju said, "We are committed to supporting the government of Uganda in rolling out housing projects through a public private partnership that will pave way for possible increase in capital subscription."

Daudi Migereko, Uganda's housing minister said, "As the Ministry, we are believe that more has to be done and in good time. We also have to look at ways to make the cost of housing materials cheaper."

The NHCC Board chairperson, Ambassador Agnes Kalibbala, accompanied Migereko to Nairrobi for the signing.
