July 28--The Silver Bow County Fair, plum full of family entertainment July 31 to Aug. 2, culminates in a free outdoor concert featuring two tribute bands: The Beach Boys Tribute and Eagles Tribute "Desperado."

The Good Neighbor Concert is Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Butte Civic Center. The Beach Boys start at 7:30 p.m. and the Eagles play at 9:30 p.m.

Concert-goers can sit in the bleachers or bring lawn chairs. Bar and concessions will be available. Fair board secretary Lisa Pederson said 2,500 showed up for last year's concerts, which were near-capacity.

Deemed "Country Pride County Wide," the fair will have its typical free kid-friendly acts and traditions.

At least 120 members of the Classy Clovers 4-H Club and the Confederates 4-H Clubs will compete in a full slate of events and demonstrations.

4-H members enter long-term projects, such as raising goats, steers and alpacas for the livestock show. Other 4-H events categories include shooting sports, woodworking, ceramics, a babysitting education program, cooking, sewing, pocket pets, dog shows, rabbit shows and chicken shows.

In its second year, the County Fair Flower Show awards the Purple Rosette Ribbon to the Best in Class flower entry; other gardener prizes will be awarded, too. Cut flowers, arrangements, potted plants, house plants and hanging baskets are welcome, said Diana Widhalm, Confederates 4-H leader and fair board member.

Winners will get ribbons and Petunia Factory gift certificates.

Crafty types are encouraged to enter the Open Class Exhibits. All types of hobbies are welcome: handiwork, woodworking, photography, ceramics, needlework, crocheting, knitting. Rules, categories and entry blanks are available at the fair website under "competitions."

"You can bring garden articles, cooking, baking, anything is allowed," said Widhalm. "Last year we did pretty well, but this year we hope to get more entries in the Open Class."

Check-in times on July 30 for the Open Class Exhibits and flowers are: 8-10 a.m., 11-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Judging starts at 6:15 p.m. Check-out time is Aug. 3 from 3-5 p.m. Details: Call Widhalm, 406-490-5436.
