Burundi : BURUNDI gets $100m WORLD BANK grand for energy production

Burundi has received $100 million in grants from the World Bank for energy production.

According to Tabu Abdallah Manirakiza, Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Planning, financing agreement was signed in the context of the implementation of the hydropower plant project on Jiji and Murembwe rivers.

He adds, With financial support from the World Bank, the government of Burundi has initiated a multi-sectoral infrastructure project on water and electricity.

Rachidi Radji, Resident Representative of the World Bank in Burundi, stated that $100 million grant indicates the beginning of the fulfillment of commitments towards funding $270 million project. He added, This completes the funding of about $ 340 million that the World Bank made last year for the regional hydropower project on Rusumo including $113 million for Burundi.

The project, apart from supporting the expansion of capacity to 50 MW, will also support the reform REGIDESO.
