'Day of imagination' coming to Granary

July 27, 2014

American News, Aberdeen, S.D.

July 27--The classic Disney film, "The Sword in the Stone," storytelling and other activities make up a children's event Saturday at the Granary Rural Cultural Center.

The gathering, called "Once Upon A Time . . . Adventures in Imagination!," is presented by the Dacotah Prairie Museum. It runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

"The Sword in the Stone," made in 1963, will be shown at 1 and 3 p.m. on the new big screen in Putney Hall. Children may attend either showing.

"To add to the fun, children are invited to come to the Granary dressed as their favorite storybook or movie character," according to a news release.

A Mother Goose character will tell stories and rhymes in the shade of the sculpture garden. Children will tell a favorite story by fashioning a mask of a character to wear at the mask-making gazebo and create homemade musical instruments to accompany singing and dancing.

"Face-painting will magically transform children into their favorite storybook character and, before the end of the exciting day, they will order a fantastic creation made of balloons to take home," said the release. Face-painting and balloon fun begin at 2:30 p.m.

Treats and punch will be available, as well as popcorn with the movie. Freewill donations will be appreciated.

To register, call the Museum at 605-626-7117. All children must be registered and have an accompanying adult to attend. For directions to the Granary, visit dacotahprairiemuseum.com.
