A particularly lively edition finds Donald Macleod exploring the music of Cole Porter and his racy private life as a homosexual whose notorious parties featured cross-dressing and drug-taking. The music is the thing however and this opening programme is especially rewarding, exploring the many compositions written in his college years and featuring his first song to have a commercial recording, I've a Shooting Box in Scotland, performed deliciously by Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby.
