United States : IBM, APPLE to use existing partnerships with EPIC SYSTEMS to build iOS healthcare software empire

July 24, 2014

In order to build an iOS healthcare software empire, IBM and Apple intend to use their current partnerships with healthcare software provider Epic Systems and love of doctors for their iPhones and iPads.

The two companies have announced that they would start selling a bundle of Apple devices as well as IBM services and middleware software.

General manager of IBM's business with the public industry, Dan Pelino, said, "The deal is a game changer but in healthcare we can use the mobile environment to reach the consumer, the patient, the member -- and back into the enterprise".

Pelino said IBM will build on a substantial amount of work already ongoing with Apple with the iPhone and iPad for healthcare applications, but will be magnified by the recently unveiled IBM MobileFirst for iOS platform.

IBM and Apple will break away from the tradition of healthcare applications and work to develop apps that are targeted at the mobile user.
