July 24--WATERLOO -- Strong response to the Waterloo Community Playhouse's summer musical tour de force, "Les Miserables," has meant adding a performance Friday to the already lengthy run.

Tickets are available for the 7 p.m. show on the Hope Martin Theatre stage at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Because time is short to reserve tickets, WCP is selling the remaining seats at a discount.

Artistic Director Charles Stilwill is directing one of the stage's most famous and popular musicals of all time, his final summer show before retiring in September.

"Les Miserables," known as "Les Miz," is a sung-through musical based on Hugo's novel set in 19th century France. It is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant seeking redemption and other characters caught up in a revolution with students who make their last stand at a street barricade.

Courier critic Barbara Lounsberry said the show "satisfied both the ear and the heart."

For tickets, call 291-4494 or visit the box office at 225 Commercial St.
