BRIEF: Credit cards stolen in break-ins

July 24, 2014

By John Weiss, Post-Bulletin, Rochester, Minn.

July 24--KASSON -- Kasson police are reminding residents to lock doors of their homes and cars because a person or persons got into unlocked homes and cars Monday and stole some credit and ATM cards.

According to the department's Facebook page, "The suspect seems to have targeted random houses checking for unlocked doors and vehicles ... The person reporting this crime said the theft occurred by the suspect or suspects walking into their homes."

The department is working with police in Kenyon and other cities because it appears the cards were used, unsuccessfully, to get money at several businesses in those cities, said Assistant Police Chief Kent Berghuis. Surveillance videos show one man in the businesses.

The suspect's car was traced back to Austin and police are also checking that area for the suspect, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kenyon Police Department at 507-649-0264 or Kasson police at 507-634-388.
