Tokyo stocks almost flat amid lack of trading cues

Tokyo stocks were almost flat early Thursday morning amid a lack of major trading cues.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 18.65 points, or 0.12 percent, from Wednesday to 15,347.21. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 0.42 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,272.81.

Major gainers included glass and ceramics, air transport as well as construction shares, while real estate and steel products lost ground.
