July 23--The mid-summer concert series "Dog Days of Summer" continues tonight at the Isaac Taylor Garden in New Bern.

Beach Street Band will be playing jazz fusion at the 228 Craven St. venue, behind the Greater Good Gallery.

The band will return on Aug. 8.

The gates open at 6 p.m., with a $2 cover charge.

The band was formerly known as "Biodigital Jazz" and performed here during ARTcrawl, a monthly series by the Community Artist Will, each second Friday of the month in downtown.

"The band members said they changed the name to Beach Street Band because it's easier to remember," according to a Greater Good Gallery release.

The performers include Brandon Buller on alto sax, Ben Callihan on clarinet, John Hall on piano, Mark Boughton on guitar, Steve Frigiola on bass and drummer Mark Gulotta.

These six musicians met through service in the Marines.

Guitarist Boughton said they generally practice upwards of three hours daily and have all played instruments since early childhood.

"The jazz fusion really sets us apart and we enjoy the challenge," he said.

Jazz Fusion is developed from mixing funk, R&B rhythms and other styles of music with a complex exchange among the musicians.

The Aug. 8 concert will be during an ARTcrawl event.
