July 22--Jazz and soul musicians, political and country comedians and body-bending aerialists will fill the Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts' 2014-2015 season.

Here is a look at the Princess Theatre's upcoming professional series and special events.

Professional series

Political comedian Mark Russell will kick off the season Oct. 23 with "An Evening with Mark Russell." Think of the syndicated columnist and television host as the precursor to popular political satirists Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert.

"The Doyle and Debbie Show," Nov. 20, a comedy show from Nashville parodies all things country music. The song titles include "ABCs of Love," "Barefoot and Pregnant," "Stock Car Love," "Blue Stretch Pants" and "Harlequin Romance."

St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Jan. 31, will feature the seven-member Birmingham-based soul band praised by Rolling Stone, Southern Living and Garden and Gun. Paste magazine described the band's performance as "the kind of transcendent experience that will leave you eager to share your vision of the light in the days that follow."

New Shanghai Circus, March 16, a troupe of Chinese acrobats, will perform a series of aerial, contortion, bicycling and juggling acts.

The Hot Sardines Band, April 28, will perform jazz infused by elements of prohibition-era Bourbon Street and Parisian cabarets.

Calhoun Writers Conference presents Billy Collins, a former U.S. poet laureate, on Oct. 6.

Fourth annual Rotary Free Family Movie Night, Dec. 1, featuring "Scrooge."

During An Evening with Rick Bragg, Dec. 4, the author will discuss his latest book, "Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story."
