July 23--Looking for something to do this weekend? The Great Midwest Rib Fest, a three-day celebration of barbecue, debuts at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake this year.
Eight of the nation's well-known barbecue chefs will compete for $15,000 in prizes.
The free event includes an art festival, live entertainment, and food and drink for sale.
Local judges, including chef Jack Riebel, formerly of Butcher and the Boar and soon to be of the revamped Lexington in St. Paul, will decide who takes home the prizes. The public will vote for the Best of the Fest Award on Friday and Saturday.
Winners will be announced Sunday.
The event -- 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday -- will take place on the grounds of the casino.
Live entertainment includes Paul Revere and the Raiders on Friday, the Oak Ridge Boys on Saturday and Chris Hawkey on Sunday.
