Major fire at AMR Tech Park;no casualties, but firemen hospitalised

Bangalore: About 10 fire personnel were hospitalised as they fell ill after inhaling smoke during an operation to douse fire that broke out in a software company on Friday afternoon. Goods worth several lakhs of rupees was gutted in the fire that was put off after an operation of about eight hours.

Fire broke out in Tally Solutions Pvt Ltd, a software company, situated in AMR Tech Park in Hongasanda on Hosur Road. Fire department officials said that they received a call about the incident around 1.45 pm and eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. As the fire was intense, more vehicles were called in.

"The fire broke out in the fourth floor of the building, where around 300 employees work. Most of them had gone for lunch to the canteen on the terrace. The rest managed to come out of the building on seeing the fire and smoke. Thus, no casualties were reported luckily. However, there was thick smoke due to the fire and it was difficult to enter the office. Due to the heavy smoke, about 10 personnel fell sick and they were taken to hospitals," an official said.

"We also faced shortage of water during the operations and the companies nearby supplied us water. Finally the fire was completely doused around 10 pm. Furniture, computers, laptops and other goods worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire. The exact value of loss will be known only after the owner of the company, who is in Hong Kong, arrives. The reason for the mishap in being investigated. About 31 fire tenders and 75 fire personnel were pressed into service," the official added.
