With an increasing number of VDSL2 subscribers on one cable, crosstalk (FEXT) between the VDSL2 signals limits the achievable data rate. In this case vectoring makes vital improvements possible. The data rate rises and the variance of attainable data rates in the cable decreases. Vectoring allows telecommunications operators to provide high data rates. The technical advantage of the VDSL2 transmission technology can be harnessed to the full. The actual data-transmission rate also depends on the wire length. In typical FTTC installations (optical fibre to the cable distribution cabinet) data rates of up to 100 Mbps downstream and 40 Mbps upstream are attainable over 600 metres. Since 2012, KEYMILE has been supplying its customers with VDSL2 boards for MileGate, the multi-service access platform. The boards allow network operators to upgrade to vectoring at a later stage. This could be an integral part of an overall strategy: network operators initially offer VDSL2 but plan to upgrade to vectoring in the future. If network operators wish to add vectoring to the VDSL2 service from the beginning, a board with an integrated vectoring unit is also available.
"Vectoring shows that KEYMILEs sustainable approach to product development also pays dividends to our customers who have been able to add vectoring to VDSL2 hardware purchased two years ago, comments
