July 2, 2014

Tokyo stocks ended the morning session almost flat Thursday, as buying triggered by a solid performance overnight by U.S. stocks offset selling to take profits ahead of the release of a U.S. employment report for June.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 9.23 points, or 0.06 percent, from Wednesday to 15,360.74. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 2.41 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,278.37.

Major decliners included metal products, brokerage and bank shares, while mining and nonferrous issues gained ground.
