Media Advisory: President Obama Talks With Marketplace’s Kai Ryssdal

July 2, 2014

Interview focuses on the state of economy

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- President Obama sat down today for a radio exclusive interview with American Public Media’s Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal.

In an interview airing on public radio stations nationwide tomorrow evening, Ryssdal asks the President what the latest jobs numbers really tell us about the economy we're living in right now; why he's resorted to the use of executive actions as of late and why Americans should feel confident in our banking system, six years after the financial crisis. Acknowledging that refinements to the banking system need to continue, Obama said, “…what I’ve said to my economic team, is that we have to continue to see how can we rebalance the economy sensibly, so that we have a banking system that is doing what it is supposed to be doing to grow the real economy, but not a situation in which we continue to see a lot of these banks take big risks because the profit incentive and the bonus incentive is there for them. That is an unfinished piece of business.“

The complete interview will air on Thursday’s (July 3) Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal on more than 500 public radio stations across the U.S. A transcript of the interview, along with embeddable audio segments, will be available at starting at 5 p.m. PDT today. Segments of the interview will air during the multiple broadcasts of Marketplace Morning Report tomorrow morning on public radio stations nationwide. Check your local public radio listings for air times.
