Conservation Law Foundation Statement on U.S. Department of Energy Federal Loan Guarantee to Cape Wind

July 1, 2014

BOSTON, July 1 -- The Conservation Law Foundation issued the following news release:

In a major show of support for the Cape Wind offshore wind energy project, the US Department of Energy today took the first step in issuing a $150 million loan guarantee with a conditional commitment to Cape Wind Associates, LLC.

Conservation Law Foundation, a New England environmental organization involved in advocacy for Cape Wind, issued the following statement:

"With this federal loan guarantee, the Department of Energy is reaffirming the nation's confidence in the unparalleled clean energy potential of offshore wind," said Sue Reid, Conservation Law Foundation Vice President and Director, CLF Massachusetts. "It also is a reflection of the many permitting and financing milestones Cape Wind has achieved, and how close the nation's first offshore wind project is to being built, at long last. Today, we celebrate a smart investment in the nation's clean energy future."

CLF played a lead role (http://www.capewindnow.org/you-spoke-and-people-are-listening/) in generating public support (http://www.capewindnow.org/leading-non-profit-organizations-and-concerned-citizens-voice-support-for-a-loan-guarantee-for-cape-wind/) for the federal loan guarantee.
