July 18--TAHLEQUAH -- The chance to win a 2014 883 Iron Harley-Davidson, enjoy live music, scheduled rides, and more comes to downtown Tahlequah in August.
Big Jim's Motorcycle Rally will take place in the North End Entertainment District Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 20–23.
The event is named for Jim Gilliam, who had an outdoor market downtown through the 1940s through '60s. "Big Jim" used to sell fresh fish, watermelons and other produce.
Wednesday and Thursday, day rides throughout scenic northeast Oklahoma and live music will be offered. Friday is when the vendor booths and food trucks will be set up in Norris Park. The headline show is bluesman Joe Louis Walker. Saturday brings a poker run, more rides, and a performance by Elvis T. Busboy. Admission is free.
Portions of North Muskogee Avenue and Water Street will be blocked off for "bikes only" parking. A bike show take place over the weekend.
The Harley raffle is sponsored by Northeastern Health System and conducted by Tahlequah Main Street Association Inc., a not- for-profit 501(c)3. Tickets are $25 each and only 1,000 are being sold. A count of how many tickets are left can be found at www.bigjimsrally.com.
This will be a reverse raffle, meaning all of the tickets will be drawn until there are 10 left. Once the drawing is down to 10, those ticketholders have the opportunity to auction off their tickets. The holder of the last ticket drawn will be the winner. They will not need to be present to win.
Tickets are available at the Tahlequah Main Street office, 123 E. Delaware St.; Vivid Salon and Boutique; The Branch; Tahlequah Cable TV; Felts Shoes; from Edna Kimble at Century 21; and on the event website.
The motorcycle will be on display at various locations until the rally, including: BancFirst Downtown, Lowe's, Movies in the Park, Reasor's, Cherokee Casino Tahlequah, Northeastern State University's University Center, and The Branch.
