July 18--Peanuts, barbecue and old-fashioned farm fun are on the ticket for Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 at Chippokes Plantation State Park. The annual Pork, Peanut and Pine festival returns to the Surry County park with everything reminiscent of small-town delights. From a parade to petting little piglets, it's a weekend focused on family fun.

The festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, featuring performances by Kasey Rae. Flatland Bluegrass, Main Street Band, Nansemond River Boys, Rick Dellinger and Hard Knox round out the musical entertainment for the weekend. Don't miss the large variety of arts and crafts vendors, along with a food focus on barbecue dishes and peanuts fixed every way possible.

Mr. and Mrs. Peanut will parade through the grounds at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission costs $5 per person; children 10 and under are free.

Chippokes Plantation State Park is one of the oldest continuously operating plantations in the nation, according to the park's website. Located on the James River, the park also includes a swimming pool, campgrounds, cabins, picnic areas, equestrian trails, beach access and a farm museum.

The park is at 695 Chippokes Park Road in Surry. For more information call 294-3728 or go to porkpeanutpinefestival.org.
