July 18, 2014

Smartphone maker Xiaomi is set to launch its 4G device on July 22 in Beijing, which is a big threat to Apple in China.

Xiaomi in China may take the place of Samsung as Apple's true threat.

Xiaomi could take the wraps off a new flagship smartphone sporting a metal-based chassis. The company released images of the device, which runs on 4G data networks operated by China Mobile and others.

The Xiaomi 4 features a 5-inch display, 13-megapixel camera and a Qualcomm 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor.

Xiaomi benefits from home-court advantage in China, and has been innovative and aggressive. Xiaomi has been investigating some interesting motion-sensing technologies, and its Chinese OS could allow it to dominate that market.

Barclays upgraded Apple to overweight, saying that Samsung has been struggling while Apple seems to be gaining shareholder confidence.

Apple has been facing shipping delays for a big-screen, phablet version of the iPhone 6.

Apple stock was down by 1.5%.
