OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 17, 2014) - The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General announced today a selection of National Film Board of Canada (NFB) short films that will be shown on August 17 and 19, 2014, as part of the inaugural Rideau Hall Movie Nights, in Ottawa.
Featuring outdoor screenings on the grounds of Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada, this special summer event will be a great occasion to celebrate the NFB's 75th anniversary as Canada's public film producer and distributor. Prior to the screenings of Canadian feature films The Grand Seduction (August 17) and Louis Cyr: l'homme le plus fort du monde (August 19), the public will be treated to a journey through three quarters of a century of treasured animation and other groundbreaking works of short film.
The short films selected to appear on the evening of August 17 include Opening Speech: McLaren (Norman McLaren, 1961); Canada Vignettes: Log Driver's Waltz (John Weldon, 1979); and Moon Man (Paul Morstad, 2004). On the evening of August 19, shorts will include Hen Hop (Norman McLaren, 1942); Big Ride (Anita Lebeau, 2011); and Flocons (Marie-Josee Saint-Pierre, 2014).
Members of the public will be invited to bring their blankets and a picnic and settle in to watch these Canadian films under the stars. Screening will start at sunset. Throughout the day, visitors will also be able to take full advantage of the historic grounds by exploring its paths and gardens, witnessing the Relief of the Sentries, and touring the residence. All activities are free of charge.
