Mauritania : IMF shows its interest to keep its assistance to MAURITANIA in future too

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is ready to maintain its support activities in Mauritania, according to a top official of the Fund.

In a note to the Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Monday, the IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde has expressed the intention of her organization.

Interacting with media on Monday, the Fund MD stated, I want to assure you that we remain ready to continue working with you and your government in order to improve the living conditions of the Mauritanians and promote their prosperity.

Ms. Lagarde has also congratulated the Mauritanian President Ould Abdel Aziz over his victory in the recent Presidential Election of the country. Aziz has secured over 89% of the vote in the election of 21st June, 2014, becoming the head of the country all over again.

Though nearly all the opposition parties of Mauritania had called for boycotting the election, more than 56% voters turnout had been recorded in the recent election.

The Managing Director of the IMF - Ms. Lagarde added, We highly appreciate our close cooperation with Mauritania and, as I had the change to point it out, during our meeting in Nouakchott last year, we are proud to have accompanied Mauritania in the restoration of her macroeconomic stability.
