Magnify Ministries concert coming to Roxana

July 17, 2014

July 17--ROXANA -- Gene Young woke up 10 years ago singing a song.

The song, which came to be called "Magnify," was a song Young had never heard before. Young took down the verse, and his wife, Ann, began composing the chorus.

The song was the beginning of a journey for the Youngs. From that point, the couple moved forward with Magnify Ministries, a group of gospel artists who travel and give performances to lift up the name of Jesus.

Since then, the group has performed free southern Gospel concerts in Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida, to name a few. They also go to the Caribbean on a yearly cruise.

Gene Young said he knew he just had to start the ministries for people to have a family-friendly concert regardless of cost.

"You have this in your heart where you know you have to do something," he said.

Young is also working on building a fund to help the ministry go into inner cities, where sometimes people cannot afford to hear southern Gospel performed, to put on shows.

More immediately, the group will be in Roxana to perform a free show at the Roxana Nazarene Community Center. Young, Bill Schell, and the Wanda Mountain Boys will perform at the community center from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.

For more information on the cruise or any questions, contact Young at 423-677-5093.
