July 17--NEWCASTLE, Maine -- A local man is facing a child pornography charge after he was arrested at his home Wednesday, state police said.

Robert Ransley, 58, is an artist whose paintings are in galleries nationwide, according to state police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Ransley is charged with one count of possessing sexually explicit material of a child under the age of 12, McCausland said.

Ransley's computer was seized earlier this month and, after analyzing it, police found thousands of images of child porn, McCausland said.

None of the images are believed to be from Maine.

Ransley was brought to Two Bridges Regional Jail after his arrest.
