Tokyo stocks rise in morning on optimism over the global economy

Tokyo stocks rose Thursday morning as buying was bolstered by overnight gains in major European and U.S. stock markets underpinned by investor optimism over the course of the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 30.05 points, or 0.20 percent, from Wednesday to 15,409.35. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.55 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,277.14.

Major gainers included mining and metal products, as well as glass and ceramic products shares.
